Well-led
The service did not have a registered manager in post. There was a manager supporting the home, who people, staff and families spoke highly of. We found the provider did not routinely respond to request for maintenance and repairs in a timely manner. We have provided feedback to the manager and provider regarding the areas of improvements required to ensure the premises are kept to a standard which maintains safety for people and staff.
This service scored 57 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
We did not look at Shared direction and culture during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Well-led.
Capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders
Staff who provided feedback told us they felt the manager was approachable and supportive. This was supported by what people told us. Comments included “I would recommend this place to anyone. I come to visit after six o’clock some days, so I have got to know the day and night staff” and “I do get on very well with [manager], she is lovely and actually is very helpful and finds time to spend talking with me.”
Although currently there is no registered manager in place, a registered manager application has been received by CQC from the regional support manager, who is acting as the manager of the service. Systems were in place for staff to feel supported by the senior management for example, supervision and appraisals. These helped staff to develop their skills and knowledge. People told us they felt they could approach the senior management for support, and they were accessible.

Learning, improvement and innovation
Policies were implemented to support staff learning and direct their provision of care and their conduct. Staff received training in areas that were important such as moving and handling and fire safety. Activities reflect people’s interests and choices, for example visiting the theatre. Systems were in place to review accidents and incident, to learn and minimise a reoccurrence.
Staff who provided feedback told us they were kept up to date with changes in people’s needs.
