During a routine inspection
Patient records showed people's medical histories were obtained. One staff member told us: 'Whenever a patient comes in I usually check to see if there has been a change in their medical history.' People we spoke with confirmed this. This showed the plans of care, treatment and support were regularly reviewed in recognition of the changing needs of people who used the service.
Local safeguarding adults and children's policies instructed staff on what to do if they suspected abuse. Staff we spoke with explained what safeguarding was, how to identify abuse and who to report their concerns to. This showed there were clear procedures for staff to follow to enable them to respond to appropriately to suspected or actual abuse.
We found staff kept up to date with their professional development courses. People spoke positively about the staff member's abilities. One person said: 'The dental nurse is one of the best I've had in a long time. I have confidence in the whole practice.' This showed staff members were competent to provide care, treatment and support as they were appropriately trained.
We found the service made improvements as a result of patient feedback received in January 2013.
