Safe and effective staffing

Regulations met

At the assessment on 4 November 2024, we found the practice had made the following improvements to comply with the regulation: The practice had a recruitment policy and procedures that reflected relevant legislation, to help them employ suitable staff, including agency or locum staff. We checked 9 staff files on 9 October 2024, evidence of a pre employment DBS was seen for 3 members of staff and 6 were missing this on the day. Following the assessment, evidence was submitted to show that 2 members of staff did have pre employment DBS checks, however this was not available on the day. New Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks were carried out for the 4 members of staff where this evidence was missing on 9 October 2024. A blood test was arranged for the 1 member of staff without their hepatitis B titre levels, the results show immunity to hepatitis B. The practice created a DBS tracker that included all DBS certificate dates and reference numbers to maintain oversight. The practice ensured clinical staff were qualified, registered with the General Dental Council and had appropriate professional indemnity cover. Newly appointed staff had a structured induction, which included safeguarding. The provider ensured clinical staff completed continuing professional development required for their registration with the General Dental Council. The practice had arrangements to ensure staff training was up-to-date and reviewed at the required intervals. There were also effective processes to support and develop staff with additional roles and responsibilities.
