Data we reviewed showed staff within ED worked together so patients had care and support that was coordinated.

Staff were able to access policies and guidance documents through the trust website.

The service had a systematic programme of clinical and internal audit, and systems to identify where action should be taken. The trust had 9 audits on their list to be completed during 2024. The ED did not yet have quality audits for Paediatric Early Warning Score (PEWS) at the time of our assessment. Leaders stated they aimed to have a draft audit in place by May 2024. In March 2024, the department had 9 policies and guidelines which were overdue for review. Three of these documents had been overdue for review for 2 years. Governance reports showed leaders were aware of the number of overdue guidelines and policies, and these were being monitored.
