During an inspection looking at part of the service
This inspection focused on specific concerns regarding patient safety and staff interactions. We did not rate the service on this inspection and only looked at relevant domains which related to our concerns. However, we did find several areas for improvement.
Please see the sections below for more information.

During a routine inspection
The young people spoke positively about their experience at the unit, stating 'Its ok most of the time'; 'Staff are nice and will talk with you about most things' and 'Activities are really good'.
The young people did however state that 'The mattresses are horrible' and they felt that more time could be given to education.
The young people had a full and clear understanding of their individual programmes of care and treatment. They commented that they felt they were given sufficient details and answers to any questions they may have, which they felt allowed them to make informed decisions.
They understood the care and treatment choices available to them and were given appropriate information and support regarding their care or treatment.
There was a robust system for the reporting of protection of children from abuse safeguarding incidents, staff had a good understanding and had received appropriate training.
We saw that staff were well supported and had regular personal development reviews. Training was monitored and we saw evidence that staff had the opportunity to attend more specialist training courses when appropriate. There were enough staff on duty at the time of our inspection and we saw that additional staff could be accessed at short notice if required.
