During a routine inspection
Patients were very positive about the unit and particularly about the staff. They told us 'Staff are very good - ten out of ten,' 'Doing a wonderful job' and 'I'm being helped here.'
We saw evidence of activities taking place and of people being able to go out, escorted by staff as needed. During our visit, we saw no signs of tensions between patients. Patients appeared tolerant and understanding of others' behaviour and there were relaxed and friendly interactions with staff.
Staff were positive about working at Bruce Burns. 'A good team' was a phrase we heard a lot from staff.
The one item of concern involved the delay in getting a new washing machine working effectively. This was highlighted by several people as a problem.
