At this assessment the rating has remained good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Independence, choice and control

The service promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. People told us they were able to make choices during their day. We observed many respectful interactions between people and staff. Records detailed what the person could do for themselves and guided staff to promote this by supporting them. An example was where a person experienced periods of emotional distress, and staff helped them to explore various options of support. Staff told us they were committed to supporting people and told us various ways about how they valued their choices. A staff member said, “Independence, it is important, nothing worse than taking something away from somebody.” Records showed people were involved in their care and support plans.
