Staff had access to the information they needed to appropriately assess, plan and deliver people’s care, treatment and support. Plans for referral and discharge considered people’s individual needs, circumstances, ongoing care arrangements and expected outcomes. Information was shared between teams and services to ensure continuity of care, for example when clinical tasks were delegated. When people received care from a range of different staff, teams or services, it was co-ordinated effectively. People told us that staff worked effectively across departments and that their experience at the hospital was excellent. Staff told us they felt well supported by the senior leadership team and they were approachable. Staff told us they worked well together within their teams. Staff we spoke with told us they had not experienced or witnessed any bullying or harassment. When there was alleged bullying or harassment the service had dealt with it appropriately.

How staff, teams and services work together

Score: 3

Patients told us that staff worked effectively across departments and that their experience at the hospital was excellent.

The service made sure there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced people, who received effective support, supervision and development. They worked together effectively to provide safe care that met people’s individual needs. The service had a head of department in each area and always had two resident medical officers on site. Leaders carried out a 'walkaround' each day to ensure that staffing in each area was safe. The cardiac catheter laboratory had a permanent lead in place since January 2024. Staff within the laboratory had very clear guidelines for each surgical procedure which were clearly displayed on the system. Staff told us that they had never seen a surgical procedure take place without the correct staffing levels and skill mix. In the recovery area there were always at least two trained staff in place. Staff we spoke with could not recall any shift where staffing had been compromised. The department manager was able to request extra staff from the hospitals bank staff should they be required or provide clinical cover themselves.

Staff worked effectively across teams and services to support people. Staff made sure they only needed to tell their story once by sharing their assessment of needs when they moved between different services. Staff told us they felt well supported by the senior leadership team and they were approachable. Staff told us they worked well together within their teams. Staff we spoke with told us they had not experienced or witnessed any bullying or harassment. When there was alleged bullying or harassment the service had dealt with it appropriately.
