Caring
Care and treatment was planned and delivered in a way which focused on people’s individual needs. People were encouraged to be independent and supported to help achieve their goals and aspirations by a staff team who knew them well. The service had a warm and welcoming atmosphere. We observed positive interactions between people and staff and staff engaged with people in a meaningful way.

Independence, choice and control
People were encouraged to be as independent as possible and make day to day decisions about their lives. People were able to spend time in the way they wished. A person told us, “I like it because I feel free and I have my time the way I like it. Nobody disturbing me without reason. I do like to keep myself to myself.” People had an opportunity to contribute and have their say about the care and support they received. Each person had a regular key worker allocated to them and had monthly sessions with them. These sessions gave people an opportunity to openly discuss their care and share their thoughts on the running of the service for example, activities and meals on the menu.
People participated in planning and reviews of the care and support being provided by staff. Staff encouraged people to maintain their independence as much as possible, in various aspects of life and daily activity. People’s independence levels were recorded in their care plans so staff knew where they needed assistance. This helped ensure staff had the information they needed to meet people's needs. People received care and support that was personalised and responsive to their individual needs and their care plans were kept under review to ensure staff continued to meet their changing needs.
The registered manager told us, “People we support are at the centre of every decision and are encouraged and supported to be as actively involved in those decisions as is possible.” Staff promoted people’s independence and encouraged them to do as much as possible for themselves. For example, the service had replaced the sugar with sugar cubes in the kitchen to encourage people to make their own hot drinks. The registered manager explained they had implemented a recycling and food waste system and with staff encouragement, people had been actively involved with this.
