Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the service involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. This is the first inspection for this newly registered service. This key question has been rated good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

The service always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect. The provider led by example to make sure people received care which was respectful and promoted their dignity.” Comments about staff included, “Always so respectful” and “They are all kind and helpful.”

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

The service treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics. Staff were guided by people’s needs and wishes. One member of staff told us about a person’s need to follow their own routine. The staff member said, “We go with the flow. Whatever they want we do. We fit in with them – never the other way round.”

Independence, choice and control

The service promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. The provider worked to make sure people had choices about their day to day lives. One relative said, “They allow [person’s name] to be independent. They never take over – just provide the safety net.” Staff told us how they supported people to continue to take part in social activities which they enjoyed. One relative said how much more animated and engaged their loved one appeared because of the social stimulation they received.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The service listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff respond to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress. Staff worked on a one-to-one basis with people and were therefore able to respond to their needs and wishes as they occurred. This helped to maintain people’s safety and wellbeing.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

The service cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff, and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care. Staff felt very well supported. Comments included, “Always supportive [provider’s name] goes out of her way to help you” and “Great company, always there to support you - any information or advice you need they are there.”
