At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment the rating has remained good. This meant people’s outcomes were consistently good, and people’s feedback confirmed this.

Assessing needs

The service made sure people’s care and treatment was effective by assessing and reviewing their health, care, wellbeing and communication needs with them. People's needs were assessed before they started to use the service, this information was used to create care plans. Where appropriate, relatives had been involved. Staff understood people’s needs well. They told us the information regarding people’s care needs was detailed. People’s care and support needs were assessed, reviewed, and updated as required. People’s records were accurate to the care they were receiving, and they were person centred. The provider had an electronic care planning system which meant changes to people’s care needs were updated as soon as they changed.

The service told people about their rights around consent and respected these when delivering person-centred care and treatment. People told us they were treated with respect and supported to live their lives how they chose. Relatives confirmed their loved one was treated with dignity and respect. Consent was sought from people and where necessary in accordance with the MCA. The registered manager had a comprehensive understanding of the principles of the MCA. Staff had received training for the MCA. A clear process was in place to carry out MCA assessments where required. Records showed consent was in place for people. Information about people’s care needs and choices were detailed in their care and support plans.
