Kindness, compassion and dignity

People and relatives told us staff were kind and compassionate. One person said “We struck lucky getting this place”. We observed staff treating people with dignity, for example, knocking and asking if they can enter their bedrooms.

Minutes from staff meetings evidenced wide scale discussions and focus on improving the quality of care for people. One staff member said; "resident’s needs are to be met to ensure they are safe, happy, and content."

Treating people as individuals

People told us they received person-centred care and support.

Staff spoke about people as individuals and embraced the principles of person centred care and support. Staff were able to give examples of how they responded to people's wishes and preferences.

Independence, choice and control

People and relatives said staff were caring and kind. People felt involved and listened to. 1 person said they felt part of a family and were offered choices. They said, "There is always a choice. It’s never a problem to them (the staff).” People and relatives told us there was a good choice of tasty food and a range of activity opportunities. Another relative said, “This is a loving, calm, reassuring home. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.”

Staff we spoke with demonstrated caring and compassionate values. They spoke passionately about how they wanted to deliver good care and support. 1 staff member said, “A good day is seeing residents happy and smiling.” Staff gave examples about how they promoted people’s independence, choice and control in areas of their daily life such as mobilising, eating and drinking and personal care.

Overall people looked well cared for. We observed people wearing suitable clothing and were well presented. We observed kind interactions where staff took their time to promote people's independence, choice and control.

Some records were very detailed and supported staff to deliver the right care to people. People and family were involved in the care planning processes.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

People and relatives told us they thought staff responded in a timely manner. People said staff responded promptly when they needed care and support. One person said, if they called for help staff came "pretty quick".

The provider told us they complete regular call bell audits to ensure staff responded to people in a timely manner.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

The registered manager valued the staff team and involved them in the day to day running of the home. Staff told us they felt supported and their wellbeing was promoted.

Processes were in place to provide support to staff and foster their development within their roles.
