Our view of the service

Date of assessment 21 March 2024 to 22 April 2024. This assessment was carried out to follow up on action we told the provider to take at the last inspection. The service remains rated as requires improvement. Aldergrove Manor Nursing Home is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care to older people, and younger adults some of whom may have dementia or physical disabilities. The service can support up to 70 people. At the time of the inspection there were 57 people using the service. Since our last inspection, the provider had taken action to address some of our concerns. However, this had not been fully effective as some of the concerns identified at this assessment were the same as those identified at our last inspection. Risks to people were not consistently assessed and planned for. Guidance was not consistently in place for staff on how to administer medicines safely. There were not always sufficient staff available to support people to meet their needs in a safe and timely manner. Staff had not had all the training they needed to support people safely. The governance and oversight systems in place were not consistently driving improvements. However, people were supported to manage their health needs and were actively involved in their assessments. We found 3 breaches of the legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment, staffing and governance. In instances where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded.

People's experience of this service

We received mixed views from people using the service. Some people told us they did not feel there were enough staff to support them, however they felt staff understood how to keep them safe and manage risks. People had mixed views about how medicines were administered, some felt there were concerns over how and when they were administered but most felt they understood what the medicines were for and got them on time. People had mixed views about their care assessments with some feeling involved and in control and others not feeling they were able to input into this process. People did feel supported to manage their health conditions with staff understanding how to monitor these and some people telling us their health had improved since living at the home.
