Equity in access
Staff and leaders actively listened to information about people who are most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes and tailored their care, support and treatment in response to this. Without exception, relatives told us people were treated fairly, and their rights were respected. A relative told us, “Staff are very caring and can’t do enough to give the residents their best life.” A person told us, “There used to be a stairlift here, they put it in when someone needed it, but the new resident who came for a sleepover doesn’t need it, so it was taken away. It’s our friend moving in, it’s very exciting.” Staff told us they worked to uphold people’s human rights in their day-to-day support of people and each other. A staff member said, “This home is a family, and I wouldn’t want to work anywhere else. I know what to do if any issue arises and if residents need more care or change as they get older, we could ask the registered manager for equipment and training in anything we need.” Policies and procedures underpinned working practices within the service. People’s goals and intended outcomes were detailed and were known to staff.
