Caring
People were treated with respect and dignity. Staff interacted personably with people, listened to their preferences, and acted on them. People were supported to achieve their goals. Enabling and encouraging independence was a central part of the provider’s culture.

Independence, choice and control
People consistently told us they were pleased with the levels of independence they were supported to maintain. Some people used the public bus to access shops and activities, some used taxis and a small number of people drove. Some people had pets and it was evident they were enabled to take pride in their homes. Staff were responsive to people’s goals. For instance, they supported one person to get back to their favourite activity of swimming regularly. One person said, “I was living on my own, there were steps up to the house, it’s all level here, the place is nice and very clean. I go out with my family, we go to the Range and Sainsbury’s.” People consistently told us that living close to people with similar interests and experiences was a positive for them. One person said, “I have lots of different, new friends, I’m getting to know everybody, I’m just being myself. I think it’s benefiting me here, I ‘m getting my own way."
