The Willows Care Home is a care home providing personal care to up to 17 people. The service provides support to people over 65 who may live with dementia, physical disabilities and sensory impairments. The Willows Care Home accommodates people in one adapted building. At the time of our assessment there were 10 people using the service. The service was last inspected on 27 April 2023, with an overall rating of requires improvement. This assessment was prompted in part due to concerns raised about staffing levels, medication issues, peoples’ safety from falls, food quality and portion sizes, infection control, risk management, and general lack of record keeping. We completed the assessment of the service between 11 November 2024 and 13 December 2024. We visited the service on the 25 November 2024. At this assessment, we looked at 19 quality statements in the key questions of safe, effective, caring and well-led. The provider had processes in place to protect people from avoidable harm and abuse. Staff had received training in safeguarding and knew how to report any concerns to management. People’s care plans were personalised and reflected their needs and preferences. Risks to people were largely identified and recorded so their safety was protected. There were enough staff to meet people’s personal care needs, though an increase of staff would ensure improved observation for peoples’ safety. People were supported to have choice and control and were involved in planning their care. People were referred to other health agencies to promote their wellbeing. People knew how to give feedback. The manager was visible and supportive. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. Systems were in place to monitor the quality of the service and care provided. Actions were taken to improve the service.
