During an assessment under our new approach

We carried out this announced on-site assessment on 8 January 2025. We found the practice had not met all regulations. Patients were treated with dignity and respect and at the time of our assessment, could access care, support and treatment when required. Patients’ consent to care and treatment was obtained in line with legislation and guidance. Complaints were dealt with positively and efficiently. There was a lack of effective leadership, and not all risks associated with undertaking of regulated activities had been suitably identified and mitigated. The practice is in Ringwood and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. There was step-free access to the practice and car parking spaces, including dedicated parking for disabled people, were available near the practice. The practice had 9 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with 4 dentists, 2 dental nurses, a receptionist, the compliance manager and the practice manager. The provider was not complying with all regulations. Full details of the regulation the provider was not meeting are within the assessment findings below. We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.

During a routine inspection

At this announced inspection we spoke with four patients who used the practice for their dental treatment. They all told us they were satisfied with the dental treatment they received. One individual we spoke with told us, 'They are very friendly and approachable'. Another patient said staff were, 'always helpful and very accommodating'. We also spoke with eight members of staff including the practice manager, and the registered manager who was a dentist at the practice.

Before patients received any care or treatment they were asked for their consent and the provider acted in accordance with their wishes. Patients told us they could express their views and make informed decisions about their treatment.

Patients experienced care, treatment and support that met their needs and protected their rights. A member of staff we spoke with told us, 'I am very proud of this practice, we work together and it has a family feel', and another member of staff said, 'The dentists are always willing to help patients'.

There were procedures in place to clean and sterilise dental equipment to minimise the risk of patients getting an infection.

The practice had an effective complaints system.
