Our view of the service

The White House is a ‘care home’ for people who require nursing or personal care. People in care homes receive accommodation and nursing or personal care as a single package under one contractual agreement. CQC regulates both the premises, and the care provided, and both were looked at during this assessment. The service provided support for up to 6 adults with a learning disability and/or autistic people. At the time of this assessment 6 people were using the service.We carried out a visit to the service on 13 February 2025. The last rating for this service was Good (published 19 October 2019). At this assessment the rating has remained good. We expect health and social care providers to guarantee people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices and independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services supporting people with a learning disability and autistic people and providers must have regard to it. People received safe care. Risks to their wellbeing and safety were planned for. The provider worked closely with external professionals to help manage risk. People were involved in assessments of their needs. Staff monitored people’s health to support healthy living. Staff made sure people understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent. People were treated with kindness and compassion and staff protected their privacy and dignity. People were treated as individuals, made choices and had their preferences supported. People were encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends. The service provided information using formats that people could understand. The service supported staff wellbeing. Leaders were visible, knowledgeable and supportive, helping staff develop in their roles.

People's experience of this service

The assessment was carried out by 1 inspector and an Expert by Experience. An Expert by Experience is a person who has personal experience of using or caring for someone who uses this type of care service. We spoke with 1 person who used the service, 2 relatives, 7 staff and 1 external professional. People were overwhelmingly positive about the quality of their care. They felt safe and were fully involved in planning their care. People said they received high quality care from knowledgeable staff. They said, ‘’They are working hard, and they know what they are doing. It is the same people all the time.’’ People described how staff treated them kindly and made sure any personal care was done sensitively, preserving their privacy and dignity.
