Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

People told us they were treated with kindness, compassion and dignity in their day-to-day care and support. A service user commented, “They speak nicely to me.’’ An external professional confirmed that people using the service were well cared for, based on their observations during visits.

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

Care plans included details about people’s preferred names, hobbies and interests. For example, one care plan stated that a person liked classical music, recycling and helping in the kitchen. This meant that people’s individual needs and preferences were understood, and these were reflected in the care and support they received.

Independence, choice and control

Score: 3

Staff supported people to maintain their independence. A staff member told us, ‘’Whatever they [people using the service] can do, we prompt and encourage them. For example, one service user can change [their] bed sheet, we prompt [them] to do it and assist [them].’’ People had access to their friends and family while they were using the service. The registered manager informed us, ‘’We support and encourage our service users to have access to their loved ones and family members. When we have parties, they invite their friends from the day centre.’’ People had access to activities and the local community to promote and support their independence, health and wellbeing. A staff member told us “We take them [people using the service] for activities such as bowling and the day centre to meet other residents.’’ A person using the service confirmed “We went to the London Aquarium, on a train. We saw sharks, I go shopping on Monday mornings with staff and I am going out for lunch today.’’
