Effective – this means we looked for evidence that people’s care, treatment, and support achieved good outcomes and promoted a good quality of life, based on best available evidence. People’s needs and rights were supported. Staff were aware of people’s preferences and respected these. People consented to their care and treatment. However, we found inconsistencies with the recording of people’s health needs and there was a lack of detail in the assessment document, meaning the care staff may not have information they require to provide safe care.

This service scored 21 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.

Assessing needs

Score: 2

The person told us that they had met with staff prior to receiving care to discuss their care. Feedback from the person using the service and their relative was positive about how their family member was supported with their individual care and support needs. The person receiving the care said, “They asked me everything and they wrote everything down."

The Nominated Individual told us that a practical handover of care was arranged with the person’s previous care company when Tender365 Care (UK) Limited took on the care package. Staff confirmed that they had been given a practical hand over from the person’s previous care provider when they started the care package, but we had mixed feedback from staff regarding access to the written care plans when providing care.

Processes were in place for pre-assessment of people’s care and support needs before they started receiving care, but the assessment lacked sufficient detail and contained contradicting information. Information on how to support the person to move safely and how to protect their skin was not detailed enough to guide staff to provide consistent support. This risk was reduced as the care staff knew the person they were caring for well.

The person said that their care staff always obtained their consent when providing support and talked to them about what they were doing.

Staff understood the importance of gaining consent and the fact it meant gaining permission from the person they were caring for. The Nominated Individual told us that staff were all trained to understand the importance of consent and talking to people about what is happening.

Training was provided about gaining consent and person-centred care. Training records showed that training had been completed on working in a person-centred way, communication and privacy and dignity.
