Our view of the service

We carried out this on-site announced assessment on 30 July 2024. We found the practice had met the regulations. The practice had systems to manage risks and recruitment procedures reflected current legislation. Infection control procedures followed published guidance. Patients’ care and treatment was provided in line with current guidance and patients were treated with dignity and respect. At the time of our assessment, patients could access care, support and treatment when required. There was effective leadership and a culture of continuous improvement. Excel Dental Care is in the London Borough of Barnet and provides NHS and private dental care and treatment for adults and children. At the time of our assessment, the dental team included 1 principal dentist, 1 associate dentist, 3 dental nurses, 1 dental hygienist who was also a dental therapist, and 1 receptionist, who was also a trained dental nurse. The practice had 3 treatment rooms. During the assessment we spoke with the principal dentist, 1 dental nurse, the dental therapist and the receptionist.

People's experience of this service

Two weeks before our visit, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 12 patients. On the day of our visit we received feedback and spoke with a further 3 patients. Their responses and additional patient feedback we reviewed provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice. Patient comments included, “Excellent service and incredibly professional care,” and “A great solid family practice that I trust.” Another patient told us they could not be happier with the service. The practice shared patient feedback with the team. We were told this was reviewed and where suggestions had been made, appropriate action would be taken. Staff gathered feedback from patients and demonstrated a commitment to acting on feedback. Feedback was discussed within practice meetings. Patients commented positively about the standards of cleanliness.
