Kindness, compassion and dignity
Two weeks before our visit, we asked the practice to encourage patients to share their views of the service with us. We received feedback from 12 patients. On the day of our visit we received feedback and spoke with a further 3 patients. Patient feedback provided a positive view of the dental team and care provided by the practice. Patient comments included that staff were welcoming and attentive, acted with integrity, and showed compassion. One patient said, “The receptionist is amazing. They go above and beyond….” Patients said staff were professional, courteous, and considerate. Patients felt they were treated as individuals, and their personal and cultural needs were respected. One patient told us that the dentist listened to their concerns and thoroughly explained the procedure. They did not feel rushed.
Staff were aware of their responsibility to respect people’s diversity and human rights. They were aware of the importance of privacy and confidentiality. Staff felt respected, valued and supported in their roles. One staff member told us, “We are like a family. We share responsibilities and have clear leadership from the principal dentist.” Leaders described how they supported the wellbeing of staff. It was clear that staff were highly valued and appreciated at the service.
We did not receive any information from partner organisations.
The practice had information governance arrangements and staff were aware of the importance of protecting patients’ personal information. Staff password protected patients’ electronic care records, and paper records were stored securely and complied with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). We saw the general environment helped to protect patients’ privacy and dignity. Staff treated patients with kindness, respect and compassion.
