Safeguarding

The provider worked with people and partner agencies to understand what being safe meant to them and the best way to achieve that. Staff concentrated on improving people’s lives while protecting their right to live in safety, free from bullying, harassment, abuse, discrimination, avoidable harm and neglect. Appropriate policies and procedures were in place, and staff understood their role to safeguard people from possible harm.

Involving people to manage risks

The provider worked with people to understand and manage risks by thinking holistically. Staff provided care to meet people’s needs that was safe, supportive and enabled people to do the things that mattered to them. Staff assessed and understood any risks to people’s safety. They worked with people to ensure these risks were mitigated and people felt safe receiving care. Policies and procedures were in place to ensure staff knew what to do in the event of a medical emergency to get the person prompt support and treatment.

Safe and effective staffing

The provider made sure there were enough qualified, skilled and experienced staff, who received effective support, supervision and development. They worked together well to provide safe care that met people’s individual needs. Recruitment policies and procedures were in place to ensure suitable staff were employed. Staff received refresher training to ensure their knowledge and skills were up to date with best practice guidance, and support systems were in place. People confirmed they received their regular appointments and staff told us they organised their time to ensure they could meet people’s preferred call times.
