People's needs were assessed before they started to use the service, this information was used to create care plans. The registered manager and deputy manager explained they considered people’s needs very carefully before agreeing to provide care and support. Staff told us they understood people’s needs. They told us the information regarding people’s care needs was easily accessible and detailed. People’s care and support needs were assessed, reviewed, and updated as required. The provider had an electronic care planning system which meant changes to people’s care needs were updated as soon as they changed. The service told people about their rights around consent and respected these when delivering person-centred care and treatment. People were treated with respect and supported to live their lives how they chose. We observed people and staff interactions and there was a natural consideration of consent, including explaining options and supporting choices. Consent was sought from people and where necessary in accordance with the MCA. The registered manager understood the principles of the MCA. Staff had received training for the MCA. A clear process was in place to carry out MCA assessments where required. Records showed consent was in place for people. Information about people’s care needs and choices were detailed in their care and support plans. A member of staff told us, “Gaining consent is a legal and ethical requirement that respects a person’s rights and autonomy. It helps build trust, ensures that care is person-centred, and prevents any actions that the individual might find uncomfortable or distressing.”
