People's experience of this service
Patients reported feeling safe and well-informed, with clear communication regarding care-planning and next steps. Patients described staff as being knowledgeable, caring and patients were clear on the channels for support. Staff demonstrated strong awareness of risks, conducting and updating risk assessments and there were effective systems and processes to minimise risks. Staffing levels were managed effectively with the appropriate number of staff and skills mix to deliver safe care. Mandatory training was comprehensive, kept up to date and staff felt supported with training, enabling staff to perform their roles safely. There were processes in place to ensure staff were reminded when their training was due and managers monitored mandatory training, alerting staff when necessary. Outcomes for patients consistently met national standards, supported by a robust audit programme. Staff felt encouraged to identify and propose new audits and used findings to implement improvements. Information from audits were shared amongst staff, demonstrating the hospice's commitment to continuous learning. The hospice responded to patient needs through tailored services and collaborative planning by working with others in the wider system.
