This service scored 75 (out of 100) for this area. Find out what we look at when we assess this area and How we calculate these scores.
We did not look at Shared direction and culture during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Well-led.
Capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders
Staff told us that they felt supported by the management and that they thought that the service was well managed. Once staff member told us, “I think it’s a good company to work for. Yes, feel supported by the manager, she is always encouraging and teaching me new things.” Another member of staff said, “I feel confident in the leadership provided by the manager.”
Updates were provided to staff from management through monthly team meetings, phone texts and one-to-one meetings.
Meetings were held for staff to share ideas and to hear updates from the provider about the service. Records confirmed staff were supported through regular team meetings and 1to1 meetings and we saw they had the opportunity to discuss the person's care and treatment.
Freedom to speak up
Staff said they knew who to report risks to and would be comfortable to report poor practice, including internally, the local authority and Care Quality Commission (CQC). One member of staff said “The manager encourages me to speak up when I see things going wrong.” Staff confirmed that they were aware that the organisation had a Freedom to Speak Up Guardian.
Staff had access to a raising concerns policy, so they were aware of how to speak up and voice their views about the service. The registered manager encouraged staff to speak up in team meetings, 1 to1 meetings and reviews.
Workforce equality, diversity and inclusion
We did not look at Workforce equality, diversity and inclusion during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Well-led.
Governance, management and sustainability
Staff said the communication from the management was good and they got updates about any changes, for example, to people's needs. They said they had monthly team meetings and 1:1 supervisions with the registered manager. Updates were provided about the people's needs and the care plans were updated appropriately. One staff member advised that, “The manager does random spot checks to see that they are doing well.”
Systems to monitor the service were in place and effective. Audits were conducted and recorded, but no analysis of audit results were used to drive improvements and we did not see an active internal audit action plan. This meant whilst improvements had been made, there was no formal management process of how improvements were being monitored and managed. Further analysis would enable the registered manager to improve the monitoring of any progress. The registered manager told us, "I will put a system to address this in place as soon as possible."
Partnerships and communities
We did not look at Partnerships and communities during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Well-led.
Learning, improvement and innovation
The registered manager told, “My staff are keen to learn to improve our practice.” One staff member said, “I have received all my training which was good.” Another staff member said, “I believe we work well as a team and we learn. We are effective and committed.”
Accidents and incidents were recorded and investigated. Where necessary, action was taken to reduce the risk of reoccurrence. Staff attended regular meetings where learning was shared and updates to people’s care were discussed.
