Equity in experiences and outcomes

Score: 4

Staff and leaders actively listened to information about people who are most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes and tailored their care, support and treatment in response to this. People and their relatives were confident they were treated fairly, and their rights were fully respected. People told us they had access to a wide variety of activities; these were often created and developed with individual preferences in mind. An example was where activities were developed for a person with a sensory impairment to ensure they were not excluded. People and staff explored each other’s backgrounds, the service had a world map which was displayed with pins marking 17 countries, accompanied by the names and flags of staff members' home countries. Staff told us they welcomed individual and diverse needs; they told us cultural differences and values would not be a barrier to providing care and support. Relatives told us the service was inclusive and said, “They think of diversity.” Staff training together with the culture of the service recognised and appreciated individuality. We observed many kind and respectful interactions during the assessment. Policies and procedures underpinned working practices within the home.
